Somerville Green Line Extension – The Latest News

On Wednesday June 30th at 6PM MassDOT (Department of Transportation) will host a meeting at the Somerville High School to talk about the Green Line Extension project and take questions from the community on the FEIR (Final Environmental Impact Report – don’t you just love all the acronyms?!). To read the FEIR for the Green Line Extension on the project click here.

Highlights include:

  • The Green Line Extension, as proposed now, will consist of a “spur” terminating in Union Square and another segment that terminates at College Ave in Medford. The Extension will not go as far as Route 16 in Medford. The Route 16 stop is not considered part of the “Proposed Project.”
  • After listening to public comments in response to the DEIR (Draft Environmental Impact Report) the Maintenance Facility for the project will now be located on the “Option L” plot, not the “Yard 8” plot. From the prospective of many Somerville residents including those who live at the Brickbottom Lofts, Option L is a much better choice than Yard 8 because Yard 8 would have put the facility right next to existing housing. Here’s a map of the Maintenance Facility analysis.

For more information on the project, check out the Somerville Transportation Equity Partnership website or the Green Line Extension website.

Written Comments on the project must be received by July 23, 2010 and should be sent to:
