For several years I’d heard about HONK! but to be honest I didn’t really know what people were talking about.
Activist Street Bands? Playing all over Davis Square outdoors for free? And there’s a Parade…?
Finally, last year I experienced HONK! for myself in all its mad-cap beauty and I’ve been a believer ever since.
What I know is that HONK! is a celebratory, community, feel-good event with fantastic free bands playing around every corner in Davis Square. Stroll through the streets and stop and listen, or sing and dance along. Go for the music, go for the activism, go to celebrate gathering in the streets with your neighbors and friends. Wander and wonder about all this happening (for the 5th year in a row no less) in your back yard! Then come back on Sunday for the parade.
Here are the details:
What: HONK! Fest 2010
When: October 8-10, 2010
Friday, October 8th: 3:00 – 5:00 PM Bands will perform in various schools and community venues around the Boston area. At 9:00 PM bands will play a concert at the Western Front in Cambridgeport ($10).
Saturday, October 9th: 12:30 – 9:00 PM Bands will perform around Davis Square outdoors for free!
Sunday, October 10th: 12:00 PM Join the parade from Davis Square to Harvard Square! 2:00 – 6:00 PM Bands play at the Harvard Square Oktoberfest. From 8:00 – Midnight don’t miss the final concert back in Davis Square at the Somerville Theatre!
