Somerville Ave and Shop-A-Palooza!

Somerville Ave 1Have you noticed how festive Somerville Ave looks these days? Between the new paving job (much appreciated by cyclists let me tell you!), the brick paver crosswalks, the fancy granite curbs, the lovely “period” street lamps, and the spiffy new hanging baskets of evergreens and ribbon, it’s looking pretty good! The evergreens look so nice they almost make me forget about the terrible “No Turn on Red” sign at Beacon Street and Somerville Ave that I’m waiting (hoping!) the city removes once they get control of the roadway back from the state (once the state finishes their punch list). Almost.

So, what are you up to this Saturday? Why not stroll along Somerville Ave from Union to Davis and check out the local businesses participating in Somerville’s Shop-A-Palooza! Enjoy the special open houses (read: beverages and treats!) and deals that local businesses will be offering customers this Saturday. For example, visit “Sip and Shop” at Grand in Union Square and sip wine while browsing for gifts – everything in the store will be on sale! Sound fun to me. Or “SLAM” (Saturday Local Artists Market) at the The Burren in Davis Square where over 20 local artists will be selling their goods and The Burren will be offering special $5 lunch deals. Mmm. There are a ton of other fantastic local businesses to support this Saturday (and year-round). Part of what makes living in Somerville so great is the variety of local businesses that enliven our squares and give back to the community. So if you’re shopping this holiday season, why not show some local love?

For more information on “Shop-A-Palooza” (including a video clip featuring our very own Mayor Curtatone) check out Somerville Local First. Don’t forget to visit your favorite local businesses, and maybe a few you’ve never checked-out before, this Saturday, December 4th!

Awesome post, as usual! I love the Curtatone clip too — so well done, plus love how they zoom in one the names of the local businesses while keeping it light. Do you have you blog on your card?
